Frequently Asked Questions

The deadline to contribute to your RRSP for the 2025 tax year is March 2, 2026. Any contributions made by this date can be claimed as a deduction on your 2025 tax return, reducing your taxable income and potentially getting you a refund.
For 2025, you can contribute up to 18% of your previous year's earned income, to a maximum of $32,490. You can also use any unused contribution room from previous years. Check your Notice of Assessment or CRA My Account to see your exact contribution limit.
An RRSP loan allows you to borrow money specifically to contribute to your RRSP. You get the tax deduction and refund immediately. With a 120-day payment deferral, you don't make payments until September — giving you time to receive your tax refund and use it to pay down the loan. The current rate is 4.95% with no application fees.
For most people in a 30-40% tax bracket, yes. On a $25,000 contribution, you'd get $7,500-$10,000 back as a refund. The interest you pay on the loan (at 4.95%) is typically much less than the immediate tax savings plus the long-term benefit of having that money grow tax-free in your RRSP.
Your refund depends on your marginal tax bracket. In Ontario, on a $25,000 contribution: at 20% bracket you'd get ~$5,000 back; at 30% bracket you'd get ~$7,500 back; at 40% bracket you'd get ~$10,000 back. Use our calculator above to get a personalized estimate.
Yes! There are no prepayment penalties. You can make lump-sum payments at any time, including using your tax refund to pay down a significant portion of the loan right away. Most clients use their refund to immediately reduce what they owe.
